A Prince Albert Destination Wedding at Eerstewater and Abrahamskraal Guest Farm

Because of our personal ties to Prince Albert, Prince Albert weddings always have a very special place in our hearts.

Some weddings feel like they could only ever have happened in one place. Danielle and Jonathan's Prince Albert destination wedding is one of them, a day built entirely around the wild, folded landscape of the Swartberg Pass, the quiet charm of Prince Albert's streets, and the kind of golden Karoo light that photographers dream about.

The couple were set to move to Norway after their wedding, so this celebration was also a sort of send-off by friends and family before their next big adventure as newlyweds.

Getting Ready

The morning started gently, split between two of Prince Albert's loveliest addresses. The groom, Jonathan, got ready at Prince Albert Cottage on De Beer Street with his brother, two outdoorsmen, both completely at home in boats and on mountains, trading easy jokes while they dressed. Across town at the Olive House, the Danielle was joined her mother and sister, who had flown in from the Netherlands, along with her sister's husband and their baby, the bride's niece, adding a soft, unplanned sweetness to the morning. Danielle crafted her veil and accessories from her mother's own wedding dress, adding a meaningful layer to the occasion.

The First Look

Before the ceremony, the Danielle shared a first look with her closest friends in the Olive House garden; a private, joyful moment tucked away from the rest of the day's excitement.

A Ceremony in the Swartberg Pass

From Prince Albert, guests were shuttled up into the Swartberg Pass to Eerstewater, where the ceremony took place entirely under open sky. It's hard to overstate how special this setting is: ancient, contorted sandstone folds rising on every side, the kind of geology that feels almost otherworldly. Vows were exchanged with those cliffs as a backdrop, and family portraits afterwards made full use of the dramatic scenery. Couples and guests cooled off with ice cream from Popcycle, a sweet, playful touch before the celebration moved on.

A Couple Shoot Through the Heart of Prince Albert

What followed was one of the most varied couple shoots we've had the pleasure of shooting on a Prince Albert destination wedding: starting at Eerstewater, we wound slowly north through the Swartberg Pass itself, stopping wherever the light and rock formations demanded it. Back in town, we photographed in front of The Showroom Theatre, then captured a series of tender, quieter portraits outside the NG Church on Church Street. From there, the road led out toward Abrahamskraal Guest Farm, with several more stops for photographs along the way.

Canapés, Speeches, and a Cape Dutch Farmhouse

At Abrahamskraal, guests gathered on the lawn in front of the farm's handsome old Cape Dutch house for canapés and speeches, a duo of violinists entertaining guests with the afternoon light softening as the celebration continued outdoors. Before the reception opened, the couple slipped away to take a private moment together in the reception space, a brief pause before the room filled with family and friends. As the sun dropped, we made time for one more couple shoot: a sunset session that turned out to be one of the most striking of the day. By this time they were fully relaxed and the pressure was off - they could just be fully present in this moment. It showed in their pictures.

Dancing Under Karoo Stars

The evening unfolded exactly as a Karoo wedding should. Guests took their seats, more speeches followed, the shoe game had everyone laughing, and dinner was, by every account, divine. The couple opened the dance floor with a perfectly choreographed first dance before the whole room joined in, and the celebration carried on late into a perfect March night under the stars.

This Prince Albert destination wedding captured everything we love about shooting in this part of the world: dramatic landscapes, historic buildings, and a couple whose love for the outdoors and adventure together shaped every part of their day.
